Simon Girling |
Simon Girling graduated with Honours from Glasgow University Veterinary School in 1994. He gained his Royal College of Veterinary Surgeon (RCVS) Certificate in Zoological Medicine in 1999 and his Diploma in Zoological Medicine in 2002 where he was the first candidate ever to achieve the avian subdiscipline paper. Simon gained his RCVS Recognised Specialist in Zoo & Wildlife Medicine status in 2003. Simon has been involved with the British Veterinary Zoological Society as a Council member since 2000 and recently stepped down as its President. He is also involved with the RCVS Zoological Medicine Board and has been an RCVS Chief examiner for the Certificate in Zoological Medicine and the Diploma in Zoological Medicine. Simon has worked in mixed, small, exotic first opinion and referral veterinary practices in Scotland and England over the last 15 years and he currently works for the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland as their Head of Veterinary Services overseeing the health of their collection based at Edinburgh Zoo and the Highland Wildlife Park. In addition Simon also co-owns a first opinion and exotic species veterinary referral practice in Perth, Scotland with his wife who is also a veterinary surgeon.
